What is WordPress?
WordPress is a powerful Content Management System, (CMS). WordPress is flexible enough to allow web designers and developers to create different types of websites.
There are two different types of WordPress:
- WordPress.org: open-source, free software.
- WordPress.com: not free to use. Private enterprise.
At Soul Space Design, we work with WordPress.org.
To create a website using WordPress, you will need a domain name and a web hosting account.
A domain name is the unique name of a website and often comes in two or more parts or levels, a little like an address. For example, our website is, www.soulspacedesign.com.au. The “.au” means Australia (which gives a clue as to our location!). The “.com” stands for commercial, telling you we’re a business. The “soulspacedesign” is the name of our business and forms part of our brand. Finally, the “www.” stands for the world wide web. Put them all together and they form a unique address that leads visitors directly to our website.
A web hosting service provides the space on which to build (and maintain) a website.
At Soul Space Design we provide Domain Name Registration and Website Hosting to all clients we build websites for.
Why do we use WordPress
WordPress is open source content management software and currently powers around 40.5% of all websites on the Internet.
The WordPress project is contributed to by tens of thousands of developers all over the world and is growing from strength to strength.
WordPress allows us to develop flexible and customisable websites to modern standards and observes web development best practices. Furthermore, the community of web developers that use WordPress reaches far and wide and allows us to tap into this collective intelligence and bring that wealth of experience to your project.
Who owns the licenses used to build WordPress websites?
WordPress software runs under The Free Software Foundation (FSF) which is a nonprofit with a worldwide mission to promote computer user freedom. A copy of the licence is included with every copy of WordPress.
Licenses used to add functionality to your website are owned by the software developers.
Where are our websites hosted?
We have our own Linux Virtual Private Server (VPS) in Australia.
Our VPS has a 99.9% Uptime guarantee on the network.
Due to the highly customised nature of the work we do and security, we only host websites we build.
A local Sunshine Coast company looks after our server, helping us maintain technology and security up to date.
What happens after we launch a website?
Once a website is launched, our clients receive the Website Owner’s Manual, containing technical details and logins.
We’ll also continue providing assistance to you via our Website Hosting and Care Maintenance Services.
These services include updating your software, regular backups, security checks and making sure your website is online and open for business 24/7/365.
Taty is an excellent designer and really exceeded our expectations with our logo and website design. She is very passionate about her job and she really went out of her way to understand exactly how we wanted our branding to look, and she delivered on that perfectly.
She’s professional and creative, and a genuinely lovely person as well!
Our website is exactly the way we imagined it.
We are very pleased with Soul Space and certainly will continue working with Taty for a long time.
