Book Design

Your book deserves the same care as its contents. We design books that are clear to read, consistent throughout, and ready for print or digital publishing.

Book Design Process

Design Concepts

We start with the concept: sitting down together, face to face or virtually, to discuss your requirements, your target readers, and the factors that will shape the design.

If you’re not yet sure what you want, we’ll prepare more than one concept, so you can see how the same requirements can be met in different ways.

This stage is the foundation of your book’s design. Everything else builds from here.

Typography and Font Pairing

Typography needs to be legible and comfortable to read, and fit your book’s overall design. We consider:

  • Size of the book
  • Your target market (age affects how people read)
  • Print or digital media (fonts behave differently in each)
  • Cultural background of your target audience

Most books use more than one font, chapter headings, captions and subtitles are often different to the body text. Pairing fonts well is a skill in itself, and one we bring from experience.

Layout & Typesetting

This stage brings your design elements together on the page: typography, illustrations, photos, charts and tables, placed into a grid system.

We handle the detail, kerning, leading, hyphenation, justification, and removing widows and orphans, to build a structure that reads clearly and consistently throughout.

Design Revisions

Once you’ve reviewed the design, we make revisions based on your feedback until you’re happy with the result.

Pre-press files for commercial print or your preferred digital supplier

Once the design and layout are approved, we prepare your files, ready for commercial print, or as PDFs for your chosen third-party supplier.

I’m not sure if she knows this, but I call this incredibly talented and intelligent woman My Boss: Taty Hindes from Soul Space Design: Logos, Branded Websites and Graphic Design has been helping me with my business since 2009 when I opened my gift store Lamington in Noosa and has now designed and assisted me with every step of publishing our newly-released cookbook Cook Noosa.

I spent many years living and working in Miami, the Latino capital of the world, and as Taty hails from El Salvador I felt an instant affinity with her.

Taty lives with her equally intelligent Mama and husband, Paul, of Soul Space Building Design.

One day while working together on Cook Noosa, I was greeted by Taty’s Mama and a bowl of her homemade Sopa de Frijoles and from that day on I knew my connection and friendship with Taty and her family was sealed forever. Muchas Gracias Taty”
